CIO Panel - Security Implications of Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing has become a major topic on the radar for IT departments, and while it offers functional and cost benefits, it also represents a significant change from our current model of network architecture. With that change, one has to consider the security implications of decentralizing access and applications.

For our February chapter meeting, the ISSA Kansas City chapter is welcoming a distinguished panel of CIOs from some of Kansas City’s top businesses as they discuss what they need from security practitioners to ensure the safety and security of corporate assets as computing enters the “Cloud.”

We’ll ask the panel:

•    What do you, as CIOs, consider to be the greatest benefits and threats of Cloud Computing? How do you identify business processes and data that are good candidates for cloud computing? 
•    What role does security take in determining the efficacy of a Cloud application? How do you determine that the risks involved in migrating to the cloud are acceptably low? 
•    Do cloud applications and data pose challenges for your normal security activity? How do you monitor activity, notifications, event logs, etc? How do you perform audits, capacity planning, business continuity planning, forensics? In other words, how do you perform the functions necessary for the day-to-day security of your data?
•    What could your security team do to better enable Cloud Computing initiatives for your organization?
